ATV buyers guide 2018-19

The ATV guide for 2018 [PDF] sees a number of changes to the model line-ups.

Suzuki unveiled its redesigned KingQuad 500 and 750 just a couple of months ago; they have the same power as before but more low-down torque from mildly revised 493cc and722cc engines.

There is also a revamped frame and hitch that, along with upgrades said to deliver more effective engine braking and service brakes, has resulted in a significant increase in rated towing capacity to 600kg for both models.

Adopting the headlight installation of other Suzuki quads – which results in one lamp mounted centrally on the handlebars – aims to improve visibility at night, especially through turns.

At the same time, the raised handlebar design is intended to give riders a more comfortable posture while upgraded preloaded shock absorbers are said to improve ride quality.

Electric power steering is standard as before.

Can-Am

Can-Am manufacturer BRP has thoroughly revamped its comprehensive range of Outlander quads, which are available in road legal as well as off-road specification.

Equipment variations help create the long list of Outlander model options, many of which are aimed more at the leisure rider than the farm work sector.

Quadzilla

The same goes for the new Quadzilla CForce 850XC and X8 CForce 820, which come in at the top of the range with 800cc petrol-fuelled engines developing more than 60hp.

Kymco

The Kymco brand has returned to the listing after a brief hiatus following the demise of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s UK distributor.

Kymco has now set up its own distribution business to handle the three-model quad range, which includes a pair of two-wheel drive machines.

These make a useful option for riders who don’t need the full traction of four-wheel drive – and it results in a keen price that undercuts the all-wheel drive machines available.

TGB

Similarly, there is a new distributor for TGB quads, which results in the return of the novel Landmaster 600 EPS, a long wheelbase quad with a 454kg tipping cargo box on the back.

Yamaha

Yamaha’s line-up includes the Kodiak 450 introduced last year and which is now available with a “full body armour” kit for riders wanting to protect their vehicle over very rough terrain.
